Waiting On The Lord

I wait quietly before God,

for my victory comes from him.

He alone is my rock and my salvation,

my fortress where I will never be shaken.

So many enemies against one man—

all of them trying to kill me.

To them I’m just a broken-down wall

or a tottering fence. . . .

Let all that I am wait quietly before God,

for my hope is in him.

Psalm 62:1-5

Surrounded by enemies, David felt like a broken-down wall, ready to collapse at any time. Just as a tottering fence can’t withstand the battering of a persistent bull, David knew he couldn’t withstand the attacks of his enemies. David didn’t bemoan his circumstances. He didn’t frantically try to counter every assault and every lie. Instead, he quietly waited on the Lord—the only one who could deliver him.

When you feel surrounded by your enemies and are broken, express your feelings and concerns to God. But also resolve to trust in the Lord no matter what situation comes your way today, and refrain from taking matters into your own hands.
