Singing A New Song For God’s Victory

Singing a New Song for God’s Victory

Sing a new song to the LORD,

for he has done wonderful deeds.

His right hand has won a mighty victory;

his holy arm has shown his saving power!

The LORD has announced his victory

and has revealed his righteousness to every nation!

He has remembered his promise to love and be faithful to Israel.

The ends of the earth have seen the victory of our God.

Psalm 98:1-3

Singing—both what we sing and how we sing—speaks volumes about the way we feel. A downcast face or halfhearted voice can make joyful lyrics sound weak and flat. A smiling and cheerful singer can liven up almost any song. Talking and thinking about what God has done for us gets our heart focused on what is good, true, and beautiful. Yet when we sing to him, we offer God something that pleases him greatly: heartfelt sacrifices of praise and thanksgiving. This psalm calls on people everywhere to “sing a new song” of praise to the Lord for the great victory he has won for his people.

In your prayer time today, open up a hymnal or praise book. Find a song that celebrates God’s power and use it to praise your Father in heaven for his victory of salvation.

  • Dear Lord, I praise you for the victory you have won for your people . . .
