Rejoicing In Our Savior

Rejoicing in Our Savior

Mary responded,

“Oh, how my soul praises the Lord.

How my spirit rejoices in God my Savior!

For he took notice of his lowly servant girl,

and from now on all generations will call me blessed.

For the Mighty One is holy,

and he has done great things for me.”

Luke 1:46-49

Several months pregnant, Mary visited her aunt Elizabeth’s house. Elizabeth was about to deliver a surprise baby herself. Her child, the future John the Baptist, leaped in the womb at the sound of Mary’s voice. After Elizabeth told Mary what was going on inside her, Mary responded with a song of praise. Not only did Mary understand the greatness of God, she also believed that God had done great things for her. She realized she was part of God’s good plan. Mary knew she didn’t deserve the privilege of carrying the Messiah, and she expressed her amazement at God’s choice.

Mary’s role was unique. Only she could bear our Savior. Yet our role is surprisingly similar to Mary’s. As believers, our lives should be dwelling places for Christ’s Spirit.

  • Dear Lord, thank you for taking notice of me. My spirit rejoices in you, my Savior . . .
