Rejoicing In God’s Sure Strength

O LORD, you are my lamp.

The LORD lights up my darkness.

In your strength I can crush an army;

with my God I can scale any wall.

God’s way is perfect.

All the LORD’s promises prove true.

He is a shield for all who look to him for protection.

For who is God except the LORD?

Who but our God is a solid rock?

God is my strong fortress,

and he makes my way perfect.

He makes me as surefooted as a deer,

enabling me to stand on mountain heights.

Although we strive to follow through on our promises, we all fall short at one time or another. But not so with our God! Toward the end of his reign, King David praised God, proclaiming, “All the Lord’s promises prove true.” David described God as a rock, a protective shield, and a fortress. And God leads his people along the mountain heights like surefooted deer. All these images imply that danger and difficult circumstances still surround God’s people, but God provides security in the midst of these things.

Today, whether your circumstances put you in bright sunshine or dark shadow, consider the trustworthiness of our God and offer him your worship in prayer.
