Praising Our Righteous King
Praising Our Righteous King
The LORD is king!
Let the nations tremble!
He sits on his throne between the cherubim.
Let the whole earth quake!
The Lord sits in majesty in Jerusalem,
exalted above all the nations.
Let them praise your great and awesome name.
Your name is holy!
Mighty King, lover of justice,
you have established fairness.
You have acted with justice
and righteousness throughout Israel.
Exalt the LORD our God!
Bow low before his feet, for he is holy!
Psalm 99:1-5
“The LORD is king!” The Psalms are filled with declarations of God’s just and righteous reign. The Israelites certainly knew what it was like to live under less-than-perfect kings—weak kings, unjust kings, and evil kings. When the rule of law breaks down in a country, injustice, fear, and terror reign. But God’s reign brings justice, peace, and life.
To be a glad servant of the great King of kings should be the joy and delight of every worshipper. But too often, we want to put ourselves on the throne and have our own way. Join the psalmist in bowing low before the King of kings in prayer.
- I exalt you, O Lord, my God. I bow before you, for you alone are King . . .
