Praising God For Wisdom

Praising God for Wisdom

Praise the name of God forever and ever,

for he has all wisdom and power.

He controls the course of world events;

he removes kings and sets up other kings.

He gives wisdom to the wise

and knowledge to the scholars.

He reveals deep and mysterious things

and knows what lies hidden in darkness,

though he is surrounded by light.

I thank and praise you, God of my ancestors,

for you have given me wisdom and strength.

Daniel 2:20-23

While Daniel and his friends were in exile, they were chosen to be advisers to King Nebuchadnezzar. One night, the king had a disturbing dream, so he demanded that his advisers tell him what he dreamed as well as their interpretation of the dream. If they couldn’t do both, he would condemn them all to death—including Daniel and his friends.

Daniel and his friends responded by consulting God in prayer. Daniel couldn’t know the thoughts of the king, but the all-knowing God could. The Lord answered their prayers, revealing the dream and its meaning to Daniel. So Daniel broke forth into praise and thanks to God.

The God who answered Daniel’s prayer is also listening to you.

  • Dear Lord, you alone possess all wisdom and power . . .
