Moses’ Prayer Of Praise

The LORD is a warrior;

Yahweh is his name!

Pharaoh’s chariots and army

he has hurled into the sea.

The finest of Pharaoh’s officers

are drowned in the Red Sea.

The deep waters gushed over them;

they sank to the bottom like a stone.

Your right hand, O LORD,

is glorious in power.

Your right hand, O LORD,

smashes the enemy.

Exodus 15:3-6

Only after God struck the Egyptians with a series of plagues did Pharaoh agree to let the enslaved Israelites go. But after the Israelites set off into the desert, Pharaoh changed his mind again and pursued them with chariots and horsemen. Yet God miraculously pushed back the Red Sea. And when the Israelites had all made it to the other side, he flooded it back onto the Egyptians. God had shown himself to be the ruler of all nations and the deliverer of Israel. This miracle inspired awe in the hearts of the Israelites, and so they praised him for it.

Today, this miracle stands as a symbol of our own deliverance from sin. He is the God of the helpless. He is undaunted by the strength of the proud; and for this, he deserves our heartfelt praise.
