Love For God’s Sanctuary

I wash my hands to declare my innocence.

I come to your altar, O LORD,

singing a song of thanksgiving

and telling of all your wonders.

I love your sanctuary, LORD,

the place where your glorious presence dwells.

Psalm 26:6-8

We often approach worship on Sunday morning with little enthusiasm. In this prayer of David, however, we find an enthusiasm and joy for God’s sanctuary. He describes what he did in the Temple: After washing his hands and heart before God, he came to God’s altar. There he sang a song of thanksgiving and told fellow worshippers of God’s wonders. David yearned to join God’s people to celebrate the Lord of the universe. David could think of no better place to be than standing in God’s presence, among his people, praising the Lord who cared so much for him.

Let David’s prayer inspire you to renew your commitment to God and his people.
