Looking To God For Safety

I look to you for help, O Sovereign LORD.

You are my refuge; don’t let them kill me.

Keep me from the traps they have set for me,

from the snares of those who do wrong.

Let the wicked fall into their own nets,

but let me escape.

Psalm 141:8-10

A newspaper story told of a lost hiker who wandered in a blinding snowstorm for hours without seeing any sign of life. Finally, exhausted, hungry, numb from the cold, and ready to give up, he saw a log cabin through the trees. While not luxurious, the abandoned cabin provided warmth and shelter until rescuers found the young man. What a welcome sight that rustic cabin must have been to that lost hiker! It was his shelter, his refuge—a place of safety. That warm cabin literally saved his life. Similarly, in this psalm, David described the Lord as a refuge from the dangers that surrounded him.

It’s comforting to know that when enemies surround us, we can turn to the Lord. Today, commit your troubles to God in prayer.
