Glory To God’s Name

“My soul is deeply troubled. Should I pray, ‘Father, save me from this hour’? But this is the very reason I came! Father, bring glory to your name.”

John 12:27-28

When faced with a difficult situation, we often pray that our troubles will go away. Certainly, God is our deliverer from all evil, and it is appropriate to pray in this manner. Jesus, too, asked his Father to spare him from the agony of suffering a cruel death on a cross (Luke 22:42). But Jesus knew that enduring such suffering would bring greater glory to God the Father. By Jesus’ death on the cross, God offered salvation to all who believed in him.

When we are apprehensive about events that loom in the future, we may certainly ask our Father to keep us from harm. But following our Savior’s example, we may also pray that, whatever comes our way, God’s name might be honored in our lives.
