Finding Security In God

Finding Security in God

I cried to him, “O my God, who lives forever,

don’t take my life while I am so young!

Long ago you laid the foundation of the earth

and made the heavens with your hands.

They will perish, but you remain forever;

they will wear out like old clothing.

You will change them like a garment

and discard them.

But you are always the same;

you will live forever.

The children of your people

will live in security.”

Psalm 102:24-28

This anonymous prayer reflects the lament of someone in great distress. The words could be a journal entry of almost anyone whose problems are overwhelming. And yet, this troubled soul, after pouring out his problems before the Lord, sees a ray of hope in his desperate situation: He remembers he is a child of the eternal God. This God transcends not only our problems but also all of space and time. He is willing and able to preserve his people and bring them to live eternally in his secure presence.

If today you are troubled by the concerns of this life, take this prayer as your own. Voice your cares to God, and then thank him for providing stability in your ever-changing world.

  • Eternal God, I thank you for making me secure . . .
