Deliverance From Death

Deliverance from Death

Rescue me from the mud;

don’t let me sink any deeper!

Save me from those who hate me,

and pull me from these deep waters.

Don’t let the floods overwhelm me,

or the deep waters swallow me,

or the pit of death devour me.

Psalm 69:14-15

Earlier, David complained to God about the wickedness of those who hated and attacked him with lies. Even his own brothers were pretending not to know him. David moaned about being the “favorite topic of town gossip” (69:12). But even though everyone was against him, David didn’t give up. He didn’t let the flood of criticism overwhelm him. He didn’t let his enemies pull him down. Instead, he cried out for God to save him—to rescue him “from the mud.”

At some time in our lives most of us have felt as David did. When you’re the object of ridicule, when you’ve been lied about, humiliated, and mocked, when you feel you’re about to be “overwhelmed by the flood,” react as David did. Don’t give up. Take your shame to God in prayer.

  • Dear Lord, please hear my prayer and rescue me from the mud . . .
