Delight In God’s Love

Your unfailing love, O LORD, is as vast as the heavens;

your faithfulness reaches beyond the clouds.

Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains,

your justice like the ocean depths.

You care for people and animals alike, O LORD.

How precious is your unfailing love, O God!

All humanity finds shelter

in the shadow of your wings.

You feed them from the abundance of your own house,

letting them drink from your river of delights.

Psalm 36:5-8

In this prayer, David uses what he can see—the sky, the mountains, and the oceans—to illustrate what he can’t see—the Lord’s unfailing love, his faithfulness to his people, his righteousness, and his commitment to justice. And the fact that God daily feeds his creation—both people and animals alike—clearly demonstrates the depths of his love for all that he has made. In fact, God loves to allow his people to experience the “river of delights.”

Take some time today to see the world around you and the simple elements of your daily life from David’s vantage point. Our God is very great, and his signature is everywhere. Let us bow before him in worship and awe.
