A Prayer To Overflow With Love
A Prayer to Overflow with Love
I pray that your love will overflow more and more, and that you will keep on growing in knowledge and understanding. For I want you to understand what really matters, so that you may live pure and blameless lives until the day of Christ’s return. May you always be filled with the fruit of your salvation—the righteous character produced in your life by Jesus Christ—for this will bring much glory and praise to God.
Philippians 1:9-11
The trademark of the Christian is love. Like fruit on a tree, it is produced by the life that God gives, which courses within us. Jesus said as much when he said, “Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples” (John 13:35). The apostle Paul prayed fervently for the new believers in Philippi and told them what he prayed for: that they would overflow with love for each other—not with a gooey, sentimental sort of love, but with real, God-inspired love. Paul knew that their loving actions toward each other would be the best testimony of Christ’s work within them.
Reflect for a few moments on what it means to overflow with God’s love.
- Dear Lord, place within me a love that continuously overflows to others . . .
