A Prayer In Sickness

A Prayer in Sickness

When Hezekiah heard this, he turned his face to the wall and prayed to the LORD, “Remember, O LORD, how I have always been faithful to you and have served you single-mindedly, always doing what pleases you.” Then he broke down and wept bitterly.

2 Kings 20:2-5

Hezekiah was on his deathbed. But he knew of God’s compassion and his power over disease, so he cried out to him. When God answered Hezekiah’s prayer, he did so in a dramatic way. Within three days, the king was able to go to the Temple.

God doesn’t always respond to our prayers for healing in such a dramatic fashion. But we can be certain that God can and sometimes will act dramatically and suddenly to help us. In sickness and in health, God’s wisdom is far beyond our own. Though we may never understand why things happen in our life, we can always know that God is loving, faithful, and powerful. No matter how hopeless your situation seems, trust in God’s care for you and know that he is listening to your pleas.

  • O Lord, I cry out to you, for you are always faithful and loving . . .
