A Cry For God’s Protection

A Cry for God’s Protection

O LORD, I have so many enemies;

so many are against me.

So many are saying,

“God will never rescue him!”

But you, O LORD, are a shield around me;

you are my glory, the one who holds my head high.

I cried out to the LORD,

and he answered me from his holy mountain.

I lay down and slept,

yet I woke up in safety,

for the LORD was watching over me.

Psalm 3:1-5

When David’s son Absalom rebelled, he tried to kill David and take over his throne. David fled for his life, hiding from his son and his powerful army. Some of David’s enemies were saying, “God will never rescue him!” In the midst of those problems, David was able to lie down and sleep. He was unafraid because he knew God was his shield. God was watching over him.

It may seem that your enemies are pursuing you to death. Some may even be saying to your face, “God will never rescue you!” Do what David did. Cry out to God, your shield, for protection. Then lie down and sleep in peace, for God will watch over you.

  • Dear Lord, I know you are watching over me. Be my shield . . .
