Trusting God With Your Kids

Timothy, my dear son, be strong through the grace that God gives you in Christ Jesus.

WARREN COULD NOT BELIEVE that his daughter was graduating and would be leaving home next month. It seemed such a short time ago that he and his wife, Marcie, had brought home this beautiful bundle of needs from the hospital. And now, here she was—all grown up. Lately, Warren had found himself worrying about whether he had properly prepared his daughter for the rest of her life. Who will protect her? Will she have enough money? Will she marry the right guy? Will people take advantage of her? Once the questions started, they were endless as he realized that he had absolutely no control over her future.

Questions like these, especially at times of transition when we feel as if we are out of time, can cause fathers great anxiety. The responsibilities that come with being a dad—protector, provider, teacher, nurturer—can be overwhelming, especially when we beat ourselves up over past mistakes or how we could have done better. But in these times of worry and anxiety, we must remind ourselves that our children have a perfect Father who is always with them to protect, provide, instruct, and nurture. This knowledge allows us to confidently release our children into their future, trusting that God is good and will never abandon them.

BOTTOM LINE

Your children’s future is in God’s hands and is not wholly dependent on how well you parented them.
