Parking Lot Permanence

Psalm 90:17

BORN WITH A SILVER SPOON IN HIS MOUTH, Richard, the Duke of Gloucester, had untold wealth and privilege. He was eventually crowned as King Richard III of England, but he later lost his life in a decisive battle in the Wars of the Roses. He was buried without honor, his grave unmarked for more than five centuries. In 2012, his remains were discovered beneath a parking lot, buried among the commoners of his day.

Both pauper and potentate come to the same end. No matter how the world sees you, your power is extremely limited, and your clock is ticking. You may have worked hard to establish your own paradise here on earth. But it is all fleeting, and once you are gone, you will have no control over how people remember you.

The key is to live in light of eternity, because only what is done for Christ will last. King Solomon writes in Ecclesiastes 1:11, “We don’t remember what happened in the past, and in future generations, no one will remember what we are doing now.” What will be your legacy? What message would you want to shout from beneath the asphalt pavement? Only God can establish permanence in the work of our hands, so put your life in His good and faithful hands. A legacy of faith is the result of living under His lordship.
