Love Your Job
Love Your Job
I came to hate life because everything done here under the sun is so troubling. Everything is meaningless—like chasing the wind.
Ecclesiastes 2:17
JEFF BEGAN TO DREAD going to work every day. The job wasn’t so bad; he actually enjoyed working in advertising. But his boss often changed things just to throw his weight around a little bit. And if a client liked an idea, Jeff’s boss took all the credit. Not that Jeff was a glory hound; he just would’ve appreciated a little positive recognition. The only time he did get recognized was if he made a mistake or missed a deadline. Then his boss would come down on him like a sledgehammer, sometimes even threatening his job.
The actual work environment rubbed Jeff the wrong way too. He had never pictured himself working in a cubicle, yet here he was.
Do you ever not want to go to work? Despising your job can make your whole life seem difficult. According to research, dwelling on these feelings drives up your blood pressure, lowers your immune system, and increases headaches. On the other hand, leaning on Jesus and making the best of a bad situation can result in joy and—eventually, perhaps—new opportunities.
If you can’t change your job, at least try to change your outlook. Every job has its positives and negatives, so ask God to help you find the positives where you are. Maybe it’s your coworkers or the satisfaction of a job well done. You can’t always control your circumstances, but you can always control your attitude.
BOTTOM LINE
Ask God to help you find ways to honor Him in your job each day.
