Half Baked

Half Baked

Amaziah did what was pleasing in the LORD’s sight, but not wholeheartedly.

2 Chronicles 25:2

SOUNDS LIKE A WEIRD DREAM, doesn’t it? It’s definitely not the way to live. But think a little deeper—do you ever give God or your wife halfhearted devotion?

Amaziah’s kingship was a nightmare, and one reason was his tendency to worry. He was constantly worried about what others thought about him, and he sought to please everyone. When we worry, we show God halfhearted devotion. Excessive worry is a lack of trust in God and His Word. It’s also a sin.

The danger of being a halfhearted Christian is that we can look okay on the outside but be empty on the inside. Though we may think we’ve got everyone fooled (including ourselves), God won’t be fooled by our halfhearted commitment. An occasional dalliance with online flirting, porn, or a bar with the boys after work may not seem like a big deal, but those things undermine your relationships with God and your wife. God wants you to be fully committed. And so does your wife.

The best way to love your wife is to love God with wholehearted devotion. Only when you’ve given your first love away to God will you have a heart filled up with love for your wife. Anything else is just half-baked and not worth much.

BOTTOM LINE

Love your wife best by loving God first.
