Beautiful Things

Beautiful Things

The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky proclaims the work of His hands.

Psalm 19:1, HCSB

THERE IS BEAUTY IN THE touch of your wife’s hand and the all-out belly laughs of your children. It’s there in the chill in the air on a sunny morning and in a soft afternoon rain shower. Beauty is a snow-covered field on a quiet moonlit night. Beauty is the leaves changing colors in the Appalachian Mountains and the muted browns of the Arizona desert.

How would you like to hear beauty? Listen to your favorite music with the car windows rolled down. Want to feel beauty? Wiggle your bare toes in the not-too-hot sand of the beach. How about smelling beauty? Visit a bakery. Want to experience beauty? Cross the finish line of a 5K race with friends and family cheering you on.

In the book of Genesis, when the floodwaters finally receded, God signified His covenant with Noah by placing a rainbow in the sky. The array of colors was His signature, and to this day, they remind us of His beautiful faithfulness. He’s the ultimate artist.

All we have to do is take the time to look around and appreciate the magnificence of what God has created. There is beauty to be found around every corner, in both everyday circumstances and once-in-a-lifetime events. Don’t stop to just smell the roses and then move on without a second thought. Smell them, and then give thanks for them!

BOTTOM LINE

Only God could create the kind of beauty that we see and experience all around us. Take notice and give thanks!
