All Guilty

The person who keeps all of the laws except one is as guilty as a person who has broken all of God’s laws.

James 2:10

KEVIN ENJOYED HELPING his daughter memorize Bible verses for Sunday school. This week’s verse was James 2:10.

“For the person who keeps all of the laws except one is as guilty as a person who has broken all of God’s laws,” his daughter read.

“Exactly right, sweetie,” Kevin said as he read along.

Then his daughter asked something that caught him off guard. “Am I guilty, Daddy?”

Thinking quickly, Kevin answered, “Do you always obey Mommy and Daddy? Do you share and not fight with your brother and friends?”

Kevin’s precious girl thought for a moment, then answered with tears in her eyes, “No.”

“So you are guilty,” Kevin said, hugging her. “But you can be forgiven. If you have Jesus in your heart and ask Him to forgive you, then you’re not guilty anymore.”

Kevin’s daughter didn’t pray to accept Christ that day, but this interaction showed Kevin that she was old enough to understand her need for a Savior. Through additional conversations, Kevin’s daughter did make that life-changing decision. As fathers, it’s our responsibility and honor to help introduce our children to Christ. We need to look for opportunities, cooperate with the Holy Spirit, and help make our kids’ faith strong.

BOTTOM LINE

Do your children know Jesus personally? Make the effort to help your kids build a firm foundation on Christ.
