Valentines
VALENTINES
Read Romans 13:8-10.
Jasmine and Brooke giggled as Jasmine slipped an envelope into the valentine mailbox their teacher had set up. “I’ve never seen such an ugly valentine,” said Jasmine. “I can hardly wait to see Erin’s face when she opens it.”
When Jasmine arrived home that afternoon, her mother asked to see her valentines. “Oh, my! This is a pretty one,” said Mom, picking one up. “It even has a chocolate heart on it! I’ll bet this is your favorite. Who is it from?” She turned it over. “Oh, from Erin.”
To her mother’s surprise, Jasmine burst into tears. “Oh, Mom,” she sobbed, “I’ve been so mean to Erin lately. I gave her an ugly valentine, and she gave me such a pretty one. She was nice to me today, even after she got my valentine.”
Mom put her arm around Jasmine. “Are you sorry for the way you’ve been acting?” she asked.
Jasmine nodded and wiped her eyes. “I need to apologize. But what can I say?”
When Mom called Jasmine to set the table for supper, Jasmine bounced into the kitchen. “You seem happier now,” observed Mom.
Jasmine smiled. “I called Erin. She said she felt bad when she read the valentine, but she forgave me. We’re going to eat lunch together tomorrow. I still can’t get over how nice she was to me when I was so mean to her.”
“You know,” said Mom, “Erin reminds me of Jesus. He loved us even when we were sinners.”
HOW ABOUT YOU?
Is it hard to admit you’re a sinner? God says you are, but He loves you anyway. Confess your sin and receive His forgiveness.
TO MEMORIZE:
But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.
Romans 5:8
JESUS LOVES YOU.
