TRIPS AND SMALL THINGS
Read Luke 11:9-13.
Megan heaved a big sigh. “I sure wish we could go to Iowa for Grandma and Grandpa’s thirty-fifth anniversary party,” she said. “All my cousins will be there. Why does your boss have to be so mean and not let you off, Dad?”
“He’s not being mean, Megan,” replied Dad. “It’s just that too many other people requested that week off before I did.”
“Why don’t we pray about this?” suggested Mom cheerfully.
“Pray about it?” asked Megan. “Do you think we ought to? My friend Jennifer says we shouldn’t bother God with unimportant things, because He’s busy running a whole universe. Does He want to be bothered with a family trip?”
Dad frowned. “Megan, remember last December when I told you to make a list of what you’d like for Christmas?” he asked. Megan nodded, and Dad continued, “You didn’t say, ‘Oh, I couldn’t do that. You have your job to think about and repairs to make on the house, and so many more important things.’”
“But you’re my dad!” interrupted Megan.
Dad nodded. “That’s right,” he said, “and I’d feel bad if you weren’t comfortable giving me that list.” He reached for his Bible and turned to Romans 8:14. “Megan, God calls us His children, and He feels sad when we don’t confide in Him. Now, let’s pray about that trip.”
HOW ABOUT YOU?
Did you know that God is interested in all your requests—even the little ones? Our fathers aren’t perfect, but our heavenly Father is. He loves His children even more than an earthly father would. Even though His answer may be “no” or “wait a while,” your requests are very important to Him.
TO MEMORIZE:
Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.
