Trees Need Leaves
TREES NEED LEAVES
Read John 15:1-7.
Once a year Tyler visited his uncle and aunt. There he had a great time playing with his cousins and helping in his uncle’s apple orchard. One day after Tyler had helped pick apples for a of couple hours, he was resting beneath one of the trees. Uncle Mike came and sat next to him. “Here, how about having an apple?”
“No thanks, Uncle Mike,” Tyler replied. “I’ve had several already. I’ve just been sitting here wondering why apple trees grow so many leaves. Without leaves there’d be more room for apples.”
“Oh, but Tyler, without the leaves there would be no apples,” Uncle Mike stated.
“Are you sure?” Tyler wanted to know.
“Very sure,” came his uncle’s reply. “The leaves absorb sunshine, which gives the tree the strength to make fruit.”
“How about that!” Tyler exclaimed.
“Here’s something else that’s important,” Tyler’s uncle continued. “Just as leaves soak up the sun, spelled s-u-n, in order to bear fruit, we need the Son, s-o-n, if we are to produce fruit.”
“What do you mean, Uncle Mike?”
“Many people try to live good lives and do good things,” said Uncle Mike. “But without Jesus, the Son of God, their fruit—or good living—is worthless. We need Jesus living in our hearts and lives. That’s why it’s important to accept Him as Savior while we’re young and learn all we can about Him as we grow up. He can help us live the way we ought to.”
HOW ABOUT YOU?
Do you think you can get along without the Son of God? Do you try to produce fruit, or good deeds, in your own strength? You can do nothing good by yourself. You need God’s Son, Jesus.
TO MEMORIZE:
I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.
John 15:5
