THE WRONG FRIENDS
Read 2 Corinthians 6:14-17.
Alan’s little sister reached up. “Hold my hand, Alan,” she said.
“I don’t need to hold your hand,” he answered. “You’re not a baby, Melinda!”
“But Mama holds my hand when—oh! I almost falled,” Melinda exclaimed as she tripped over a crack in the sidewalk.
“If you’d look where you’re going, you wouldn’t trip!” Alan grabbed her hand. “Now hurry up!” Melinda chattered happily, but her big brother wasn’t listening. He was still annoyed because Mom had insisted that he take Melinda to play in the park. He’d much rather play video games. But Mom didn’t like him hanging around the arcade. And she didn’t like the boys he hung around with either. Steve and Clay weren’t so bad.
When Alan and Melinda returned home, they saw Mom in the yard. Melinda dashed ahead, tripped on the hose, and fell. “She never looks where she’s going,” said Alan in disgust.
Mom helped Melinda stand up. “She’s not the only one,” she said. “You need to look where you’re headed too, Son. I just learned that Steve and Clay were caught shoplifting this afternoon. I’m glad you weren’t with them. But if you keep hanging around those two, you are headed for a big fall.”
Melinda reached up to her brother. “I’ll hold your hand, Alan, so you won’t fall.”
Mom smiled at her. “I’m afraid you couldn’t keep him from falling, but there’s someone who can. Alan had better let God hold his hand.”
