THE SUN STILL SHINES (PART 2)
Read 1 Peter 1:23-25.
Matt’s uncle was building a new home with a solar energy system. With his uncle’s permission, Matt invited Vic to go along to look it over. “Whew! Quite a layout,” whistled Vic.
“Yeah! Most of the power for heating and cooling will come from the sun. That old sun’s been around a long time. I wonder why people are just starting to use it for energy.”
Vic recalled their conversation about the Bible and had an idea. “Using the sun for heating and cooling sounds silly!” he declared. “Like you said, the sun has been around a long time. Your uncle should use something more up-to-date.”
“Have you gone bananas?” exclaimed Matt. “Solar energy is modern technology.”
Vic pointed to a piece of equipment. “What’s that thing?”
“Aw, Vic, I don’t understand all about it,” Matt admitted.
“There you go,” Vic told him. “You don’t understand solar energy, but you believe it. The sun is as old as creation, but you still believe it’s useful.” Vic paused a moment, then added, “If the old sun is still useful and powerful, why can’t that be true of the Bible, too?”
“Well . . . I . . .” stammered Matt.
Vic continued, “If you ask God to help you understand the Bible, He will. The Bible can affect your life even more than the sun does.”
“How do you know?” Matt asked.
“The Bible says so,” answered Vic. “If you read it, you’ll learn lots of things.”
HOW ABOUT YOU?
Have you felt that the Bible is outdated? The things it teaches are just as appropriate today as when they were first written down. Read it daily. It teaches many things (such as love, kindness, honesty, obedience) that you need in your life. Best of all, it teaches you how to get to heaven.
