THE SUN STILL SHINES (PART 1)
Read Colossians 4:2-6.
Vic met his friend Matt before school one day. “Do you know what my aunt gave me for my birthday?” asked Matt. “A Bible! What would I want with a Bible?”
“You could read it,” suggested Vic.
“I could never understand it,” said Matt. “Give me one good reason why I should read it.”
“Well . . . the Bible tells us how to . . . uh . . . how to live,” stammered Vic. He knew he should witness to Matt, but he didn’t know what to say.
“How to live?” echoed Matt. “Man, I know how to live! An old-fashioned, outdated book couldn’t tell me how to live. Why, the Bible must have been written before there were cars or planes or telephones.”
“The Bible is more up-to-date than today’s newspaper,” replied Vic. “My dad said so.”
“Yeah? Well, my dad says it’s old-fashioned. Hey, there’s the bell. Let’s run or we’ll be late!”
That evening Vic told his dad what had happened. “I messed up. I couldn’t think of any good answers.”
“That’s too bad,” Dad said. “The Bible tells us we should always be ready to give an answer concerning our faith. If you study God’s Word, meditate on it, and pray each day, I’ll pray with you. I’ll ask God to give you another opportunity to witness to Matt. When He does, He will give you the right words to use.”
HOW ABOUT YOU?
Are you ever caught off guard, unprepared to witness? Do you sometimes keep quiet because you just can’t think of what to say? Read God’s Word every day, talk with Him, and as opportunities come, do speak up, trusting God to use the words He gives you for His glory. He will do it.
TO MEMORIZE:
You must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your hope as a believer, always be ready to explain it.
