The Problem
THE PROBLEM
Read Psalm 119:18.
Ric was upset. No matter how hard he tried, he just couldn’t solve his math problem. “This book has to be wrong,” he said.
His father looked up from the stove. “What’s your problem, Ric?”
“This math book is the problem,” said Ric.
Dad turned off the burner. “Let me see it, Son. Maybe we can solve the problem together.”
Rick’s father compared his son’s work with the book’s instructions. Then he studied the examples in the text. “I see what went wrong, Ric. You divided when you should have multiplied,” he said.
“I guess you’re right, Dad,” Ric admitted. “Why didn’t I notice that?”
“You were so sure the book was wrong that you gave up trying to understand,” Dad replied. “The problem wasn’t the book. It was your lack of understanding.”
“I heard that,” said Mom, coming into the room. “It sounds like the way some people treat the Bible. Just because they don’t understand all of God’s Word, they think the Bible is wrong.”
Dad nodded and said, “God’s Word is true, but sometimes our understanding of it is faulty. Some things in the Bible might remain a mystery to us until we get to heaven, but that’s okay. We don’t need to understand all of it now.”
“I’m glad,” Ric said with a grin. “I have a big enough problem understanding math!”
HOW ABOUT YOU?
Do you excuse yourself from reading God’s Word because you don’t understand all of it? You don’t need to understand everything to believe it’s all true. Ask God to give you wisdom as you read it. Look up unfamiliar words in a dictionary. The more you read God’s Word, the more you will understand it.

Every word of God proves true. He is a shield to all who come to him for protection.
