The Invitation
THE INVITATION
Read John 14:1-6.
When Sara returned to school after spring break, she and her friends chatted happily together. Then she noticed that several of them referred to Madelyn’s party.
Madelyn’s party? thought Sara. She vaguely remembered being handed an invitation, but since it wasn’t happening right away and she was very busy, she hadn’t paid much attention just then. What had she done with the invitation? She hurried to look in her desk. There it was, sticking out of her math book. She quickly pulled it out and read, “Please come to a party. . . . We’ll look for you on April 7.” Oh no! The party was last week! Just then Kayla came over to her desk. “You missed a great party!” she exclaimed. “Madelyn’s dad took us to her grandparents’ place in the country, and we had a tractor ride.”
Sara bit her lip to keep from crying. But that evening she did shed a few tears. “I could have gone,” she told her parents. “I was invited, but I didn’t read the invitation carefully. Now it’s too late. I missed it.”
“I’m sorry,” sympathized Mom.
Dad was sorry too. Then he said, “There is another invitation that many people ignore. God invites us all to spend eternity in heaven with Him, but the day will come when it will be too late to accept that invitation too.”
Sara nodded. “I’m glad I won’t miss that,” she said. “It would be lots worse than missing Madelyn’s party.”
HOW ABOUT YOU?
Have you been careless with God’s invitation to heaven? Have you been too busy to think about it? Do you intend to have a look at it later? Accept the invitation that God is patiently offering now.
TO MEMORIZE:
If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
