The Hose With Holes (part 1)
THE HOSE WITH HOLES (PART 1)
Read 2 Corinthians 5:14-19.
“I’ll hook up the hose to rinse off the car,” said Philip. He screwed the end of a hose onto the faucet. “All set,” he called.
“Turn it on harder,” instructed his father. “I’m not getting much water.”
“But it’s on all the way,” objected Philip.
Dad looked up and laughed. “Look at all the leaks—they look like tiny fountains!” he said.
“Maybe we can fix the hose,” suggested Philip. He ran into the house and returned carrying a roll of tape. Leaving the water on so he could see the leaks, he wrapped tape around one of the biggest holes. But that just made the other “fountains” jump higher!
“That’s not going to work,” Dad said, smiling. “By the time you fix the last leak, the first one will be leaking again.” Then he added, “This reminds me of you, Philip. You’ve been getting into a lot of trouble lately. Although you’re always sorry, you’re soon in some other trouble.”
Philip sighed. “What’s the leaky hose got to do with that?”
“Trying to be good—to get rid of your sins through your own efforts—is like trying to plug up all these holes with tape,” explained Dad. “It won’t work! We need a new hose. And what you need is a new heart. I’m not talking about a flesh-and-blood heart. I mean a new spiritual heart—a new nature that helps you want to obey God. Only Jesus can give it to you.”
HOW ABOUT YOU?
Have you been trying to get rid of sin through your own efforts? It will never work. Come to Jesus just as you are. Let Him cleanse you and give you a new heart.
