THE GOOD DEAL
Read Colossians 1:11-14.
“I wish I had enough money to buy that new game I’ve been wanting,” said Alex to his friend Finn. Then Alex said, “Didn’t you want to buy the tires from my old bike, Finn? I’ll sell them for twenty dollars.”
“Okay,” Finn said. So Alex took part of the money and bought the game. The boys enjoyed it nearly every day.
As the days grew warmer, Alex and Finn began taking long bike rides. One day Alex ran over a bottle and slashed a tire. “I should have kept my old bike tires,” he groaned.
“I only used one, so I’ll sell the other back to you,” offered Finn.
“All right!” agreed Alex. The boys got the tire and went to Alex’s house to fix his bike.
“I thought you sold those tires to Finn,” said Alex’s dad.
“I bought this one back,” Alex explained.
Dad smiled. “You redeemed it.”
“Redeemed it?” asked Alex. “Isn’t that a Bible word?”
Dad nodded. “The word redeemed just means ‘bought back.’ God wanted to buy us back from being slaves of sin. He knew that the only way we could be redeemed from sin was for His Son to die. We were redeemed by Jesus’ death.”
“Wow!” said Alex. “That’s awesome!”
HOW ABOUT YOU?
Have you been redeemed? If you are not a Christian, you are a slave to sin. You can’t stop doing things that are wrong. This sin separates you from God. He had to pay the price to redeem you—to buy you out of sin and back to Himself. No amount of money can do that. It’s only through Jesus’ death on the cross that you can be redeemed from sin. Accept what Jesus has done for you.
TO MEMORIZE:
God paid a ransom to save you from the empty life you inherited from your ancestors. And it was not paid with mere gold or silver, which lose their value. It was the precious blood of Christ, the sinless, spotless Lamb of God.
1 Peter 1:18-19
BE REDEEMED BY JESUS’ BLOOD.
