THE DONKEY’S TAIL
Read Ephesians 5:1-8.
It was the day of the church party, and Mrs. Gates, the teacher, tied a blindfold over Jeremy’s eyes. His class had decided to play an old party game called “Pin the Tail on the Donkey.” Against the wall was the picture of a donkey. Each child had a turn to be blindfolded and turned around a few times before attaching the tail.
“There you are,” said Mrs. Gates, turning Jeremy around.
Jeremy took an uncertain step. This wasn’t as easy as he had expected. He walked forward, wobbling just a little. He reached out with his hand and—there! It was done. The other children laughed as he snatched off his blindfold. There stood the donkey with a tail growing right out of its nose!
When the game was over, Mrs. Gates called the group together before refreshments. “Think about the game we just played,” she said. “It would be easy for any one of you to go right now and pin that tail in the right place. What made it hard during the game?”
“We were blindfolded,” said one of the children.
“And dizzy from being turned around,” added Jeremy.
“That’s right,” agreed Mrs. Gates. “As Christians, we’re sometimes like that too. We have spiritual blindfolds—things like laziness, selfishness, hate, or stubbornness. And worldly things such as TV and bad companions turn us the wrong way. Let’s ask God to help get rid of our ‘blindfolds’ and stay facing in the right direction.”
HOW ABOUT YOU?
Are you wearing a spiritual blindfold? Are you turning away from pleasing the Lord because of your friends, things you read, or music you choose? Ask God to help you walk straight ahead—to live a life that is pleasing to Him.
TO MEMORIZE:
For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of light.
