The Antique Mirror
THE ANTIQUE MIRROR
Read 1 Peter 2:21-24.
“Mom, look at this old mirror!” Carrie exclaimed. She giggled at her short, squat reflection. “It makes me look so funny.”
Mom came up to the attic behind her and looked. “That’s very old,” she said with a laugh. “It was your great-grandmother’s.”
“Can we take it downstairs?” asked Carrie.
“Sure,” agreed Mom, “everyone would like to see it. But first let’s take down the things for the garage sale.”
That evening the Stevens family laughed together over their reflections in the antique mirror. “It’s fun to look in that old mirror, but I sure am glad we have better ones to use now,” said Carrie as they ate their supper.
“Oh?” asked Dad. “Why is that?”
Carrie giggled. “Because the old one doesn’t reflect me the way I really am,” she said. “It makes me look all squashed.”
“Yeah,” agreed her brother, Gary. “A good mirror shows you just as you are.”
“I wonder how well all our mirrors are working,” said Mom as she cut a melon.
“What do you mean?” asked Carrie.
Mom smiled. “I mean us.”
“Us! We’re people, not mirrors,” said Gary.
“We are also mirrors,” said Mom. “As Christians we should reflect Christ in everything we say and do.”
“And when we do, we should reflect a true image,” added Dad. “People should see Christ living in us, the way He really is—not a squashed reflection.”
HOW ABOUT YOU?
Do you reflect Christ’s love in your life when you talk with your friends and when you play? Or is your reflection of Jesus squashed by unkind actions? Each moment of the day let your life be a true reflection of Jesus’ love.
