STANDING THE TEST
Read 1 Corinthians 3:10-15.
Kaleen looked at the pictures in her Bible storybook. “Isn’t this one pretty, Dad?”
Her father smiled. “Yes,” he said. “That’s a copy of The Last Supper painted by Leonardo da Vinci more than five hundred years ago. The original painting was badly damaged and has had to be restored multiple times.”
“What happened to it?” asked Kaleen.
“The artist used an experimental painting technique because he thought it would work better than the usual one. Unfortunately, the new method couldn’t stand the test of time. The paint peeled and flaked when it was exposed to sunlight, moisture, and dust. The end result is a dim shadow of what the artist intended.”
“I’ll bet if he could, he’d do it all over again the right way,” Kaleen said.
Dad agreed. “You know, honey, it would be good for us to remember that everything we do will have to stand a test by the Lord. All the things we have done out of love for Christ will stand the test and be rewarded. But other things we have done will be worthless, because we did them out of pride or a desire to impress others.”
Kaleen nodded. “I’m going to try to do all I can for the Lord—and to do it in the right way so I won’t be wishing I could do it over again.”
HOW ABOUT YOU?
Do you want to be a success? No matter how hard you work or how many good things you do, it will all come to nothing if it’s not done for the Lord. Ask the Lord to guide you in all that you do. Only what’s done for Christ will last!
TO MEMORIZE:
Because of God’s grace to me, I have laid the foundation like an expert builder. Now others are building on it. But whoever is building on this foundation must be very careful.
