Seeds First
SEEDS FIRST
Read Mark 4:26-29.
“It looks like these tomatoes will be perfect for the fair next week,” noted Mom as she examined Kara’s vegetable garden. “You certainly have worked hard, honey.”
“It was fun most of the time,” said Kara. She moved the hose over to the carrots as she continued to think about the fair. “I wonder how Consuela is doing on the quilt she’s making for the sewing exhibit.”
“I’d like to see it sometime,” said Mom, picking up the weeds she had pulled from the garden. “She’s such a sweet girl. Has she enjoyed coming to church with us?”
“I think so,” replied Kara, turning to her mom with a look of concern. “I wish she’d become a Christian, though! I thought as soon as she heard about Jesus, she’d trust Him as her Savior.”
“The Bible says that when we tell someone about Jesus, it’s like planting a seed,” answered Mom. “Remember waiting for these vegetable seeds to grow?”
Kara nodded. “Some of them sprouted almost right away. Others didn’t come up for several days.”
“You didn’t stop taking care of the seeds that didn’t come up right away, did you?” asked Mom.
“No,” answered Kara. “I don’t think I’ll ever understand exactly what goes on inside the ground to change small, dry seeds into radishes or cucumbers! But I knew that if I kept on watering the ground where we planted the seeds, eventually they would grow. Some just took longer than others.”
“As we keep watering the gospel seeds by continuing to witness to our friends, God will make these seeds grow too,” said Mom.
