SPEND IT WISELY
Read Psalm 92:12-15.
Linda and her mother went to a nursing home one afternoon. First they saw Hattie Smith.
“It’s about time someone came to visit!” snapped Mrs. Smith. Then she grumbled about the food, the nurses, and the rainy weather.
Linda felt sad as they walked down the hall, but when they got to Aunt Clara’s room, everything changed. The thin old woman in the wheelchair greeted them with a smile on her rosy, wrinkled face. “Praise the Lord! It’s nice to see ya!” she said. “I’ve got so much joy bubblin’ up in me today that I’ve been prayin’ for someone to share it with. This here’s Leona White. I’ve been talkin’ to her about the Lord, and she asked Him into her heart.” Leona smiled.
After they left, Linda asked, “Mom, why are those ladies so different? They’re both old, but Aunt Clara is happy and Mrs. Smith is grumpy.”
“Let’s think about it,” Mom suggested. “Do you remember the shirt we bought for your father at the garage sale yesterday? We bought a skirt and shirt for you, too. We got all that for ten dollars.”
“That’s a lot for ten dollars!”
“Yes, we spent the money well,” said Mom. Then she said, “I think Aunt Clara is happy because she has spent her life well and continues to do that, witnessing and praising the Lord. Perhaps Mrs. Smith looks back on her life with regret. Does that make sense?”
“I think so,” Linda said. “I’m going to dedicate my life to God. Then, when I’m old, I’ll be happy, too.”
HOW ABOUT YOU?
Are you afraid of growing old and dying? Don’t be! Invest your life in serving God and others. He’ll reward you in heaven. Whether your life on earth is long or short, spend it wisely!
