REFLECTIONS
Read Exodus 34:29-35.
“Well?” Lisa looked at her sister, Beth. “Do I look like Tara?” Lisa held a picture in a magazine under her chin as she gazed into the mirror. She had worked a long time to get her hair arranged like that of the movie star.
Beth shrugged. “A little, maybe. Come on, we’ve got to go.” They were on their way to the lake before Lisa mentioned the movie star again.
“Tara’s so beautiful.” Lisa sighed.
“Why do you want to be like her?” asked Beth.
“Hasn’t she been married several times?” asked Mom.
“But this magazine says she has the most exciting life in the world,” Lisa said.
When they reached the lake, everyone piled out of the car. Soon they were enjoying a picnic lunch. “The lake’s lovely. Look how blue it is,” Mom observed.
“The water isn’t really blue, though,” said Dad. “It is reflecting the sky.”
After the picnic they had fun hiking, fishing, and swimming. “It looks like rain,” said Dad when he noticed the gathering clouds. “We’d better go.”
“Look at the lake now.” Mom pointed toward the water.
“It’s gray now. It’s reflecting the clouds,” said Beth.
“And it isn’t beautiful anymore,” added Lisa.
“The lake doesn’t have a choice about what it reflects,” said Mom, “but in our lives, we can choose.”
Lisa knew Mom was thinking about Tara Tarton. Tara’s life is gray compared to the beautiful life of Jesus, Lisa admitted to herself. I should be reflecting Him.
HOW ABOUT YOU?
Is your life reflecting the beauty of Jesus? Compared to Him, the life of any singer or ballplayer, or of any friend or relative, is gray. Reflect Jesus and His way of life, not that of someone else.
TO MEMORIZE:
All of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord.
