Part Of The Family
PART OF THE FAMILY
Read Romans 5:15-19.
Joshua’s uncle Dan and aunt Judy, missionaries in Africa, were returning home on furlough. Everyone was eager to see them and their two-year-old boy, who had been born in Africa. At the airport Joshua watched while the grown-ups hugged and kissed one another. Then Uncle Dan turned toward him and said, “This must be Joshua. You have your dad’s eyes.”
“I’m eight years old now,” said Joshua. “Is that your baby?”
“Yes, that’s our Benjamin.”
“He looks just like you, Dan,” Mom said.
Uncle Dan laughed. “Yes, he’s my boy!”
On the way home that night Joshua was full of questions. “How did I get Dad’s eyes, and why does Benjamin look like Uncle Dan?” he asked.
“Children inherit certain characteristics—size or shape or color of hair and eyes—from their parents,” replied Mom. “Benjamin inherited his father’s looks, and you inherited your father’s eye color.”
“That’s right,” nodded Dad. “But we inherit more than just physical traits.”
“What do you mean?” Joshua asked.
“The Bible tells us we are all descendants of Adam, the first man God created. Adam sinned against God, so everyone inherits his sinful nature,” explained Dad. “But we don’t have to remain in our sin. If we accept Jesus as Savior, we become children of God. And God’s family is the best family to be a part of!”
HOW ABOUT YOU?
Even though God created you, that doesn’t automatically make you His child. Your sinful nature is inherited, but salvation is a definite choice. Have you chosen Christ as your Savior? If not, do so today, and you’ll be part of God’s family forever!
TO MEMORIZE:
Because one person disobeyed God, many became sinners. But because one other person obeyed God, many people will be made righteous.
Romans 5:19
SALVATION IS A CHOICE.
