Not A Taurus
NOT A TAURUS
Read Isaiah 47:12-14.
“Mom, Linnea told me I’m a Taurus!” exclaimed Kelly as she burst through the front door. “Her mom says the stars can show us what we should do according to what day we were born. She says we can read the paper every day to find out what the stars say.”
Kelly’s mother asked, “Does it make sense to you to believe that the stars have power over a person’s life? Does it make sense for people to have to wait until the newspaper arrives to find out what to do that day?”
Kelly thought about that. She remembered a girl from summer camp last year who’d always worn a rabbit’s foot on her belt, even to go swimming. She had believed it would bring her luck, until another little girl had asked, “How much luck can a foot bring? Look what happened to the rabbit, and he had four of them!” Kelly decided that believing in the power of the stars to direct her life made about as much sense as believing in a rabbit’s foot.
Kelly glanced at the family Bible lying on a nearby shelf. “Linnea may say I was born under the sign of Taurus,” she said, “but I’ve been born again.” She smiled at her mother. “I’m a Christian, not a Taurus. Jesus is more powerful than any star—He made all of them! And I don’t have to wait for the newspaper. I have God’s Word to tell me how to live!”
HOW ABOUT YOU?
Do you ever find yourself avoiding the cracks in the sidewalk? Crossing the street to dodge a black cat? Reading the horoscope section of the paper? Astrology and superstition have no place in a Christian’s life. Get rid of these things. God hates them!
