No Time To Eat

NO TIME TO EAT

Read 1 Peter 2:1-5.

Fernando grabbed his schoolbooks and ran out the door. If he didn’t hurry, he’d be late for class! It was that way every day—he’d sleep too long and then have to hurry to get ready. But no matter how late he was, he’d always take time for a big breakfast.

One day a nutritionist, Mr. Pierson, came to speak to the youth group at church. He spoke about Fernando’s favorite subject—eating! “How many hours are there between breakfast and lunch?” Mr. Pierson asked one of the girls.

“About four or five,” she replied.

“How many hours between lunch and supper?” he continued.

“About the same,” was the answer.

He pointed to Fernando. “And how many hours from supper time until you eat again?”

“Too many,” moaned Fernando.

“Now let’s ask those same questions about our spiritual food,” Mr. Pierson said. “How long does your spiritual body have to wait for food from the Word of God?”

Fernando was glad he did not have to answer that question out loud. He hadn’t been very faithful about having his spiritual food lately. Sometimes he’d go from one Sunday to the next without even opening his Bible.

“If you skip meals,” the nutritionist was saying, “your physical body suffers. And if you do not regularly read the Word of God, your spiritual body will suffer. Don’t forget Peter’s reminder to cry out for spiritual food just as a baby cries for milk. We grow only when we eat.”

As the youth meeting ended, Fernando decided he’d get up early from now on. He would read the Bible and pray before breakfast.

HOW ABOUT YOU?

Did you eat your meals today? Did you also read God’s Word? It’s important to take care of both your physical and spiritual needs on a daily basis.

TO MEMORIZE:

God blesses those who hunger and thirst for justice, for they will be satisfied.
