Never Too Busy

NEVER TOO BUSY

Read Psalm 17:5-8.

“Dad,” said Craig, “can I talk to you?”

“I’m sorry, Son,” Dad replied, “but I need to get an oil filter before the auto store closes.”

Craig wandered out to the yard where his mother was raking leaves. “Mom, today in math class Taylor Matthews said—”

“Can’t it wait, Craig?” asked Mom. “I’m going inside to make a few phone calls right now. We can talk while we’re eating supper.”

But during supper Dad and Mom kept talking about Dad’s job and family finances. That evening Craig called his friend Bob. “Wait till you hear what Taylor said today,” Craig began. But Bob cut him short.

“Sorry, Craig. I gotta go. My favorite TV show’s on.”

Later, as Craig was climbing into bed, his parents came in to say good night. “Did you want to talk about something?” asked Dad.

Craig smiled. “Well, I did—but I don’t anymore.” Then he explained. “I wanted to tell you about Taylor Matthews, who’s in my math class and always makes fun of me. But you and Mom were both busy, and Bob was too. So I talked to God about it! After that I began thinking that Taylor might be jealous because I get better grades than he does. I think I’ll offer to help him.”

Both Dad and Mom looked surprised and pleased. “I’m sorry we didn’t listen, Son,” said Dad, “but it sounds like you learned that God is never too busy to listen to His children!”

HOW ABOUT YOU?

Are your parents sometimes too busy to talk? Do you wish you had a friend who would always listen to what you have to say? Let Jesus be that friend. Talk to Him whenever you have a problem, or if you just feel lonely. He’s never too busy!

TO MEMORIZE:

I look to the LORD for help. I wait confidently for God to save me, and my God will certainly hear me.
