NO REJECTS
Read Psalm 139:14-18.
“Mom, you should have seen the new kid at our youth group last night!” said Tom as he reached for a freshly baked chocolate chip cookie.
“What about him?” asked Mom as she pulled another batch from the oven.
“He’s really weird!” exclaimed Tom.
“Oh?” Mom raised her eyebrows. “What’s so different about him?”
“Well, for one thing, he dresses funny.” Tom laughed as he remembered. “He had on these clothes that look twenty years old!”
“Maybe his family is short on money,” suggested Mom.
Tom shrugged. “His clothes aren’t all that’s weird about him,” he said. “He has a goofy-looking nose that—” He stopped short as he watched his mother sort through the cookies she had just baked. She inspected each one closely and then separated them onto different plates. “What are you doing?” he asked.
Mom picked up the fullest plate and walked toward the trash can. “Some of these didn’t turn out quite right,” she said. “I’ll just dump them.”
“Don’t throw them away!” exclaimed Tom in disbelief.
“But they’re not perfect, Tom,” explained Mom. “I examined each one, and only a few have the right color and the exact number of chips I like in a cookie.”
“They’re still good, though,” protested Tom. “You have to expect them to be different. . . .” He hesitated and then added quietly, “Just like the new kid, huh?”
Mom nodded. “Just like the new kid,” she agreed. “Just like all kids—and all men and women. God made them all different—He made them all special. He loves them all, and we should too.”
