Needed: A Light (part 1)

NEEDED: A LIGHT (PART 1)

Read Psalm 119:105-112.

“It’s so dark out!” said Kathy as she and her brother, Josh, stumbled along the path toward their campsite. They had been visiting some friends.

“Yeah,” agreed Josh, “but we’re almost—” His words were cut off as he caught his toe on a tree root and fell.

Kathy reached down to help him up. “Are you okay?”

“Yes,” said Josh, brushing himself off, “but we’d better not go quite so fast.” Kathy agreed, and the two of them moved slowly and carefully along until they reached the camp where their parents were waiting.

“We could hear you two coming,” Mom greeted them. “Did someone fall?”

“Josh did,” replied Kathy, “but he’s not hurt. It was so dark we couldn’t see.”

“Why didn’t you use your flashlight?” asked Dad.

“Flashlight?” Kathy and Josh looked at each other. “Oh, our flashlight!” They began to laugh.

“Real smart, Josh,” teased Kathy. “You’ve got the flashlight, you know. You stuck it in your sweater pocket.”

“I forgot I had it,” admitted Josh.

“You two remind me of a lot of people,” observed Dad. “They have a light for their path, but they either forget to use it, or they just don’t bother.”

“Like who?” Kathy wanted to know.

“Like all the Christians who don’t read their Bibles,” replied Dad, picking up his own. “God says His Word is a light to our path, but it doesn’t do any good if we don’t use it.”
