FOLLOW THE MANUAL

Read Psalm 119:9-18.

Dylan excitedly helped Dad unpack the big box. The small, old TV had given out completely. Dylan looked forward to watching his favorite team on a large screen. “I know how to hook up this baby,” he told his father. “I helped Tony get his TV hooked up last Christmas.” Dad smiled and let Dylan work.

After connecting the cable box, he plugged the TV cord into the wall socket. He waited for the picture to come into view. When it did, it was blurred. “I know what’s wrong,” he said, adjusting a few buttons on the set. But still the picture was out of focus.

“Are you sure you’ve got it hooked up right?” his father asked, offering to check it out.

Dylan pushed his father’s hand away. “Sure,” he said. “This TV is practically the same as Tony’s, and we got it together okay. There’s got to be something wrong with this one.”

“Read the instruction sheet,” Dad suggested. “This set could be different from Tony’s.”

Dylan picked up the instructions that had come with the TV and began to read them. Then he went back to the TV and fixed it.

Dylan was embarrassed. “If all else fails,” he said, “read the instructions.”

“Better yet,” said Dad, “read the instructions first. That principle is true in our Christian lives too. The Bible is God’s instruction book. It not only tells us how to receive Jesus as our Savior, it also tells us how to live the Christian life. But we won’t know unless we read it.”

HOW ABOUT YOU?

Are you a Christian? Then the Bible should be your guide, your instruction book. It explains what a Christian should do about sin. It commands every believer to love, to give, to witness, and many other things. God’s book is very important.

TO MEMORIZE:

You made me; you created me. Now give me the sense to follow your commands.
