Make Up Your Mind

MAKE UP YOUR MIND

Read Acts 24:24-27; 26:1, 27-29.

On the way to church, Alyssa hummed along as the voices of a choir came over the car radio: “I have decided to follow Jesus. . . .” I guess I don’t really follow Jesus, she thought. Actually, I’m not sure I’m saved.

Her thoughts were interrupted by her sister, Joni. “Look at the big sale sign in the store window!” All Alyssa could think about then was shopping.

In Sunday school class that morning Mrs. Tomkins spoke about Felix and King Agrippa. “Both men heard the gospel from Paul,” she said, “but neither made up his mind to accept Christ. I hope none of you put off making such an important decision.” Alyssa squirmed. She decided to talk to Mrs. Tomkins after class about being saved. But when class was dismissed, she hurried over to talk to Becky.

After dinner Alyssa put a few leftovers in her dog’s dish. She opened the back door and called, “Come, Spunky.” He romped toward the door. Then a bird caught his attention. Spunky was off running around the yard. “Spunky, aren’t you hungry?” Alyssa asked. Spunky sniffed the grass.

Suddenly it dawned on Alyssa that she had been acting just like Spunky. She allowed all sorts of things to take her attention away from the most important decision she had to make. Spunky could take his time, but she couldn’t linger any longer. It was time for her to trust Christ and to commit herself to Him.

HOW ABOUT YOU?

TO MEMORIZE:

Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends.
