LIKE A DONKEY
Read Luke 19:29-35.
“What can you do to serve Jesus, boys and girls?” asked Mr. Jim.
Good question, thought Mikayla. She didn’t see how the Lord could use her. Some kids gave money to help people, but she didn’t have any money of her own. Some kids sang in the children’s choir, but Mikayla didn’t have a good voice. Some kids talked easily about Jesus, but she knew she’d stutter if she tried to do that.
Just then Mr. Jim asked, “Are you smarter than a donkey?” The kids laughed. “Then,” said Mr. Jim, “you can serve Jesus.” He read Luke 19:29-35, explaining how a donkey was a perfect picture of a servant. “First of all,” said Mr. Jim, “the donkey was where God wanted him to be. He was available.”
Hmmm, thought Mikayla. I qualify there, because I want God to be able to use me.
“Second,” added Mr. Jim, “the disciples untied the donkey, as Jesus said they should. Maybe you need to let Jesus untie your fears.” Mikayla had to admit that she was afraid to try to sing or talk about Jesus.
“Also, the donkey didn’t buck in fright when Jesus sat on him. He let Jesus control him. Do you let Jesus control you?” asked Mr. Jim. Mikayla had never asked Jesus to control her life.
When Mr. Jim asked the children to pray quietly, Mikayla asked Jesus to untie all her fears and take control of her life. “Let me be a servant like the donkey,” she prayed.
HOW ABOUT YOU?
Are you afraid to try to speak out for Jesus? Are you afraid that if you try to sing a song or play an instrument to serve Him, you will make a mistake? Take a lesson from the donkey. Be available. Be loosed. And be controlled. The Lord needs you!
