A Hard Job For Michael
A HARD JOB FOR MICHAEL
Read John 7:1-5.
After Sunday school Michael waited until the others had left so that he could talk to Mrs. Winfield alone. “What is it, Michael?” she asked gently. “You were very quiet today.”
“It’s my family,” Michael told her. “I’m the only one who believes in Jesus. I come to church with my neighbors. I’d like to witness to my parents, but my dad always tells me that church is crazy, and my mother laughs when I try to tell her about the Bible.”
“It is hard to be the only Christian in the family,” said Mrs. Winfield. “I know, because I started going to church with a friend too, and it was at church I accepted the Lord. I prayed for my parents daily, but they seemed to grow angry about what I was learning.”
“What did you do?” Michael asked.
“I talked to my Sunday school teacher, and she reminded me that the Lord understood the problems I was having at home. Then she showed me a verse I hadn’t seen before.” Mrs. Winfield opened her Bible. “Did you know, Michael, that the Lord’s own brothers didn’t believe in Him? Look at John 7:1-5.”
“I never knew that before,” Michael said. “Jesus does understand my problem, doesn’t He?”
“He sure does, Michael,” agreed the teacher. “Remember that truth as you pray for your parents, and live each day so that they can see Christ in you.”
HOW ABOUT YOU?
If you or any of your friends are the only Christian in your families, remember that Jesus does understand. There was a time when His own brothers did not believe in Him. Talk to the Lord about your feelings. Pray for your family. Pray for your friends and their families. Jesus will help.
TO MEMORIZE:
He came to his own people, and even they rejected him. But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God.
John 1:11-12
