Leader Needed

LEADER NEEDED

Read Matthew 16:24-28.

Daniel and Thomas went camping with their Sunday school class. The first thing the class did was hike through the woods. Mr. Ward, their teacher, led the way. After a while, Daniel saw another path. “Come on, Thomas!” he said.

“But we’ll lose the group,” said Thomas.

“So what?” Daniel said. “We can make it on our own. We’ll just come back to this main path and follow it to the camp when we’re ready. We’ll tell all about our adventure tonight.”

So Thomas went with Daniel down the side path. Quite a while later Thomas looked at his watch. “Daniel, look what time it is!” he said. “We’d better get back to camp before dark.”

The boys hurried back the way they had come. Then they reached a fork in the path. “Now where do we go?” puffed Thomas.

“I don’t know,” Daniel admitted.

Just then, they heard a shout. “Thomas! Daniel!” It was Mr. Ward. The two boys were very happy to follow their teacher once again.

Around the campfire that night Mr. Ward spoke to the group. “When Thomas and Daniel got lost today,” he said, “it reminded me of people who think they can find their own way through life. Even Christians sometimes go their own way rather than depending on God to show them how to live. Boys, it’s important for you to follow Jesus. He’s the only true leader for you.”

HOW ABOUT YOU?

Do you want to do something your own way instead of doing what you know is right? Jesus wants to help you and lead you. But you have to be willing to follow where He takes you. He knows the way you should go.

TO MEMORIZE:

Anyone who wants to serve me must follow me, because my servants must be where I am. And the Father will honor anyone who serves me.
