JUST A LAMB’S KEEPER?
Read Luke 22:25-32.
“Good morning, Hendrick,” William greeted his lamb as he entered the fenced enclosure. He groomed Hendrick until it was time for lunch.
“Hendrick is going to win that blue ribbon at the fair this summer, Mom,” William said.
His mother smiled. “He just might,” she agreed. “By the way, have you called Kevin to see if he’ll be going to church with us tomorrow?”
“No.” William shook his head. “But it doesn’t matter, because he became a Christian last week.”
William went back to see his lamb, only to discover that he had left the gate open and the lamb was gone. Quickly he ran to the house, calling for his mother. Before long they found him in a field—right in the middle of some weeds that stuck in his coat.
“Oh, Hendrick,” William moaned. “I had you all cleaned and brushed. Now look at you!”
Mother said, “We wouldn’t want this to happen to Kevin, would we?”
William was puzzled. “What do you mean?”
“Hendrick needs help and direction even after he has been brushed and fed. By himself, he gets all messed up again,” explained Mom. “Kevin needs help too. He needs to be around people who can show him how to live as a Christian.”
“I get it,” William said. “I’ll ride over to Kevin’s and ask him to go to church with us—as soon as I get this naughty lamb locked up.”
